When you are in a good mood, "Wave of Mutilation" makes it that much sweeter. I am fucking invincible.

and I'm in love with the world. C'mere, world.

Mark Kozelek, the Internet. [Apr. 7th, 2008|06:52 pm]
Mark Kozelek is going to be playing at the MFA on, I believe, exactly the same day there's supposed to be some school function. I will take pleasure in ditching the school thing. Also, my Internet was inexplicably not working when I woke up this morning, but I managed to fix the connection without actually doing anything to the hardware. That deserves a medal.

PJ Harvey. [Mar. 17th, 2008|11:25 pm]
PJ Harvey is an incredible songsmith. She has one of the most consistently engaging discographies out of any of my favorite artists. I remember I said White Chalk was her best album since To Bring You My Love, but I now believe this to be a gross exaggeration and not true at all, because all the albums in between were great. In fact, White Chalk is probably overall her weakest album to date, but it's still really good. I think she can maintain this level of quality forever. It runs through her veins.

Stuff [∞]. [Mar. 6th, 2008|05:59 pm]
I went to the bookstore yesterday, then I ate Mexican food. My presentation is done (as of yesterday), and that went very well, but now I have to write an essay and do a bunch of other stuff. I think I will not write the essay until Sunday. My teacher doesn't give a fuck, or if he does, he'll never get it graded in time for it to matter for this term... not that he would take off that much, anyway. This will be one hard essay to write, though. Believe you me.

I basically gutted this entry of anything interesting, again. BTW, I'm not really stupid. I just write that way because I get a kick out of it.

What I'm doing. [Mar. 3rd, 2008|03:06 am]
I have a 15-minute presentation on Wednesday. I started writing it today. I wrote approximately a paragraph for it, stopped in the middle of a sentence, and decided I was satisfied and/or got distracted. Several hours later, I've actually forgotten how the sentence was going to end, so I'll probably have to erase it and start a new sentence. I will give this coming week my best shot, but I have a feeling I'll fall a little short of the mark. I get so bored at night... talk to me.

If I were President... [Feb. 24th, 2008|11:58 pm]
  • Saoirse Ronan would've won Best Supporting Actress.
  • Diablo Cody would not have won Best Original Screenplay.
  • There Will Be Blood would've won a few more things.
Javier Bardem's acceptance speech was adorable/heartwarming. I'm especially glad that he and Daniel Day-Lewis won their respective awards, because they definitely deserved it. Anton Chigurh and Daniel Plainview are perhaps the two most sinister characters this young man has ever seen on film.

Kosovo [2]. [Feb. 17th, 2008|04:38 pm]
Kosovo's Parliament has declared independence! Serbia is unhappy, Russia has called an emergency UN meeting. The streets of Prishtina are rife with celebration; the streets of Belgrade are rife with people throwing rocks at the U.S. embassy.

Kosovo. [Feb. 17th, 2008|12:57 am]
Will Kosovo become an independent state? This is an exciting story which I've been following for a while. The Serbian government is very steadfast in its refusal to grant the region independence, but tomorrow, the government of Kosovo will declare it anyway. It will be interesting to see how Serbia reacts, as well as the rest of the world. Besides Serbia and Russia, most states seem to be supportive of an independent Kosovo. (I'm a huge dork for political stuff like this.)

Misc. things. [Feb. 15th, 2008|10:14 pm]
I found an old copy of The Stranger (one of my favorite books) in my brother's room. It's not the translation I read. I don't like this one at all. This reminds me, though, I've read parts of the original French text, and... the tone is a little different than in the English translation. I kind of have to wonder if I'd like the original as much as my preferred translation.

I watched Juno today. Parts of it were obnoxious (namely the acting, the "shocking" bits, and the music references), and I've historically had a grudge against Kimya Dawson, but overall it was fair. God damn if Michael Cera isn't adorable, even if he's still playing the same character. Best Picture, though? No me hagas reír. I'll have to watch the other movies in the category to try and form a proper opinion.

EDIT: The more I think about it, the more I realize I didn't like it.

Movies I watched, films. [Feb. 11th, 2008|02:30 am]
On Saturday, I went out in a ridiculous blizzard to go see There Will Be Blood, and then today, I watched No Country for Old Men (right here). They were both good, but No Country is doing a number on my insides. I won't go into why, since I'm going to assume not everyone reading this has seen the movie. I was confused after I watched both movies, and had to think for a while to decide whether I liked them or not. Maybe that's a common trait of a good movie? I can't remember, it's been so long since I first saw, for example, Dog Day Afternoon, one of my favorite movies, if I had to think about whether I liked it or not.

In other news, I'm real good at wasting time, and that's becoming a little pesky.

Weekends, cancellation, RPM. [Feb. 1st, 2008|01:12 pm]
This weekend is going to be nice. We were sent home from school at 11:20, but the weather hasn't been remarkable until just now. It started to snow a few minutes ago, and now it's starting to sleet. I like the way it bounces off the roof. Watching it makes me feel like a little kid.

Also, in slightly more interesting news, I'll be participating in RPM '08, in a collaborative effort with Ms. Natasha Duchene. It's going to be a lot of fun, and I bet it'll end up sounding really cool too. I am really excited. I will definitely be posting the results after it's all done, so... yeah! You will have something new to listen to.

I decided I actually would be willing to part with the money, and phoned up Somerville Theatre, but tickets were sold out. Oh well.

The Magnetic Fields. [Jan. 26th, 2008|06:12 am]
How cute/lame would it be to see The Magnetic Fields on Valentine's Day? I'd go if it were a bit cheaper.

P.S. This week sucked. It's not quite done yet.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day; St. Agnes Day. [Jan. 21st, 2008|02:01 am]
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and St. Agnes Day happen to coincide this year. That makes things a lot easier, doesn't it? Hope it's great, folks.

Music stuff. [Jan. 20th, 2008|02:24 am]
The new Daïtro/Sed Non Satiata split LP is awesome! I honestly didn't even know that good screamo was still coming out, and I thought both of those bands had broken up already. Also, I heard some of Autechre's new album on a thinger from The Wire (the magazine), and it kind of sounded like the same old stuff. I even thought Untilted was killer, and on par with all their other albums, even though mostly everyone else didn't. I might just have been too busy to appreciate the new songs. I still have high hopes.

Two points. [Dec. 29th, 2007|08:06 pm]
  • Exile in Guyville is still one of the best albums I've ever heard. I don't care what anyone says.
  • Remember the video for "Afx237 V7"? (It was called "Rubber Johnny".) I was just thinking about it in the car last night. That shit was incredible.
